Batman Forever Merchandise Review - Wing Blast Batman figure from Kenner

This week we're looking at one of the many Batmans for Kenner's action figure line - Wing Blast Batman. It's a pretty standard Kenner figure - brightly painted Batman, giant backpack, simple action feature. With all the silver it kind of reminds me of the Batman & Robin movie.

Concept Art: Wayne Enterprises

Here's a couple of sketches of the design for Wayne Enterprises used in the film - an interesting idea of having the building be nestled among larger skyscrapers and built on top of some kind of hydro-electric dam.

A little bit of trivia - some versions of the script had Bruce arrive at Wayne Enterprises via helicopter before his meeting with Edward Nygma. If you look at the sweeping establishing shot they use in the film - it almost looks they did the shot but then figured they could save money by not adding the helicopter. Joel has mentioned in some recent interviews that the budget was quite tight so this may have been the case. Who knows?

Batman Forever Merchandise Review – Card Series from Fleer

So I've posted scans of the entire Metal Series of cards from Fleer now. I hope you enjoyed looking at them in all their weird and wonderful glory.

I thought rather than scan and post the rest of the Fleer card series - they are predominantly stills and promo shots from the film - I'd instead do a quick video looking through them and doing a quick commentary. Hope you enjoy.

Cards: Metal Fleer Batman Forever cards 96-100

This is it. The last set of Metal Cards from Fleer. Card number 100 is of course a check list.

I hope you've enjoyed this look back through some very wonky 90s illustration. I was going to leave it there but I've just got my hands on the Gold Blaster set so I'll get those scanned and posted to.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review - Attack Wing Batman figure from Kenner

Today we're looking at the Attack Wing Batman figure - one of several 'Deluxe' figures released in the line with larger more elaborate accessories. The giant wings came with small suckers that allowed you to stick the wings on to certain surfaces like glass. It's a fun feature but I more prefer the ones with missiles and the like. I remember seeing this in the shops back in 1995 but never bought it until recently. It always reminds me of those Garfield toys that people used to stick in their car windows.

Magazine Article: GamePro December 1995

Hoping to do some kind of review for the Genesis (Mega Drive) and SNES Batman Forever game at some point. I literally completely the other day using an emulator and save states. Anyway here's an old issue of GamePro covering the somewhat frustrating game.

Batman Forever Merchandise Review – Batboat and Batsub Mini Playset from Bluebird

This week we're looking at two mini playsets from Bluebird - the Batboat and Batsub which come with a selection of mini Batman, Robin, Riddler and Two-Face figures. Although they are called Mini Playsets they are really just mini vehicles and mini figures. There's not much that makes this a set. When I hear mini playset I tend to think of Mighty Max or Star Trek: Innerspace. Something that opens, shuts and keeps figures inside.

Anyway there's not much to say about these. If you're into mini figures they are quite fun but if you aren't, they are easy to skip. They sort of work in conjunction with the Batman and Riddler head mini playsets that I've previously reviewed.

Magazine Article: Vanity Fair April 1995 issue

Been a while since I posted any magazine content, here's a quick one from Vanity Fair. Nothing much of interest in the written content but the photography by Herb Ritts (who did the promo shots of, I think, all the Burton/Schumacher movies) is stellar. Note the shot of Batman - a fantastic pose - in which you can see that his armpits are actually spandex!
